A Servant of Two Masters
Possibly the Happiest Comedy Ever
Commedia dell'Arte has played an important role in the world of theater since the third century. The Peach Blossom Land was created through the improv training technique of Commedia dell'Arte, bringing a fast-paced, fanatical yet delicate and whimsical comedy. Carlo Goldoni is one of the most prominent playwrights for comedies and A Servant of Two Masters is representative of his many brilliant works. The story depicts Beatrice's servant Truffaldino, always complaining of an empty stomach and always trying to satisfy his hunger by eating everything and anything in sight. When the opportunity presents itself to be servant to another master, he sees the opportunity as a chance for an extra dinner.
